Biography

William Tsutsui is Chancellor and Professor of History at Ottawa University, a private comprehensive university with residential campuses in Kansas and Arizona and adult, graduate, and professional programs offered through sites in Kansas, Wisconsin, and Arizona, and online globally.  Prior to joining Ottawa in 2021, he held a variety of faculty and administrative positions at the University of Kansas, was Dean of Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University, and served as President of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.  In all of his leadership roles, Tsutsui has stressed accessibility, international engagement, academic innovation, and the transformative power of philanthropy.  Trained as a historian of modern Japan at Harvard, Oxford, and Princeton, he is the author or editor of nine books including Godzilla on My Mind: Fifty Years of the King of Monsters, which was called a “cult classic” by the New York Times.
