Daniel Feitelberg is interim vice chancellor of finance and chief financial officer at the University of California, Berkeley. Like many for whom the University of California is alma mater, Dan’s career experience has been shaped through the opportunities afforded as a student and later through his service to the university. Born and raised on the San Francisco Peninsula, he is part of the first generation of his family to graduate from a four-year university. After spending 13 years as a public finance investment banker, helping to provide financing for public projects throughout California, he has since worked exclusively within higher education.
In 2012, Dan joined the University of California as the vice chancellor of planning and budget at UC Merced, where he served until 2017. In this role, Dan led the consolidation of administrative staff from several departments to facilitate the integration of planning and budgeting functions and was responsible for the planning and execution of the second phase development of the campus, called the UC Merced 2020 Project. Previously, he served as a partner and the higher education advisory leader at KPMG, where he helped teams of professionals in the areas of strategy, transaction services and consulting to work with leaders at universities and academic medical centers. Dan has served as a guest lecturer at Georgetown University, Stanford University, and the UC Berkeley Center for Studies in Higher Education. A graduate of UC Davis, Dan earned his bachelor’s degrees in agricultural and managerial economics and political science, with a public service emphasis. He lives on the San Francisco Peninsula with his wife, Brittany, and daughters Aria and Avery.
