Since 2012, Michael K. Le Roy, PhD, has served as the tenth president of Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Prior to Calvin, Le Roy gained more than two decades of faculty and senior administration experience at Whitworth University and Wheaton University.
Le Roy is passionate about the advancement of excellence in teaching and learning and is often asked to speak on the civic role that higher education plays, the future of higher education, and higher education finance.
During his tenure at Calvin, he has successfully led community-wide efforts to develop and implement a strategic plan, a campus master plan, an educational framework, and Calvin LifeWork—a distinctive, co-curricular program which holistically prepares students for overall success in a fast-paced, ever-changing world.
Le Roy’s rich educational background includes undergraduate work in international studies (Whitworth University), a PhD in political science (Vanderbilt University), educational experience in Latin America and Europe, and executive training from the Institute of Education Management (Harvard University). Three decades of experience in higher education has equipped him with tested wisdom, and his unwavering enthusiasm to explore God’s world is contagious—inspiring students, faculty, and staff to live wholeheartedly as Christ’s agents of renewal. Michael and his wife, Andrea, are grateful parents of son, Dana, and daughters, Hannah and Astrid.
