Biography

Antonio (Tony) Calcado is the Executive Vice President for Strategic Planning and Operations and the Chief Operating Officer at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. A leading national comprehensive public research university, Rutgers serves a student population of approximately 70,000 supported by a workforce of over 27,000, encompassing 29 million square feet of physical plant.

Calcado is a recognized leader in the negotiation and structuring of private public partnerships, leveraging internal and external assets in order to strengthen ties to the financial markets positively impacting the university’s balance sheet. Through these entrepreneurial partnerships with the development community as well as local, state and federal agencies he has generated nearly $400 million dollars in returned equity.

Managing a budget of over $450 million, Calcado’s span of authority includes leading the institutional planning and strategic endeavors with oversight of capital planning and construction, auxiliary, retail, facilities, transportation, public safety, and emergency services for all university campuses, entities, and health care facilities across the state of New Jersey.
