Cornelius C. Graves, Esq. is a seasoned executive, lobbyist and legal professional. He is a native of Roxbury, Massachusetts, with nearly two decades of experience in higher education at the executive and director levels. Currently serving as the Executive Director and CEO of the Norfolk State University Research & Innovation Foundation, he leads with a vision of transformative growth, strategic leadership, and operational excellence. Under his leadership, the Foundation has achieved significant milestones, including real estate expansion and the creation of sustainable revenue streams.
Cornelius’ extensive background includes his tenure at Winston-Salem State University, where he served as Director of External Relations, Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and Liaison to the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors. There, he secured over $131 million in funding for critical infrastructure projects and spearheaded initiatives that positioned the university as a leader in social, economic, environmental, and educational equity. In recognition of his impactful leadership in North Carolina, Cornelius was named one of the “40 Most Influential African Americans Under 40 in the Triad” by Black Business Ink Magazine in 2020.
Cornelius is an alum of Howard University and the Southern University Law Center, holding bachelor’s degrees in both Administration of Justice and Philosophy, as well as a Juris Doctor. He is a licensed attorney in both Louisiana and Washington, DC.
A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason, Cornelius is deeply committed to service and community impact. He is also a dedicated family man, married to Dana Weston Graves, the CEO of a major hospital, and the father of two sons, Weston and Blake.
