Dr. Larry L. Earvin joined the SACSCOC staff as Vice President in August, 2015. Prior to this appointment, he served as President and CEO of Huston -Tillotson University for fifteen years and as Dean of Arts and Sciences and also as a senior staff member in the office of the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs at Clark Atlanta University.

At Huston-Tillotson, Earvin led award-winning campus building renovations, enrollment increases, faculty recognitions, student initiatives, and a status change from college to university. Dr. Earvin has served on the SACSCOC Board of Trustees, as vice chair of its Executive Council, and was elected chair of the SACSCOC Board of Trustees for 2013-2014 term.

He is a recipient of the James T. Rogers Distinguished Leadership Award, the Commission’s highest award, for exceptional leadership and distinguished service in higher education. He holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Clark Atlanta University, a master’s degree in urban administration and planning from Georgia State University, and the Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University.

His vast professional service also includes membership on the Council of Independent Colleges Board of Directors and the Amistad Research Center Board of Directors. Within the United Methodist Church, he has served as chair of the Commission on Black Colleges of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, a board member of the Committee on Planning and Implementation of the National Association of Schools and Colleges, as a board member of Educational and Institutional Insurance Administrators, the American Council on Education, the National Association for Equal Opportunities in Higher Education, the Council on Higher Education Accreditation, and the United Negro College Fund.
